What We're Listening To: The Lex Fridman Podcast

Updated: Sep 26, 2023

It goes without saying that the world in which we live is plagued by desensitization, misinformation, and political turmoil. Having been exposed to tragedy after tragedy, many of us are rather desensitized to the tragic news that we are reading or watching on the television. As conspiracy theorists attempt to make sense of the needless tragedies that occur, we begin to see misinformation spread like a disease as it attempts to take over the sober mind of the ordinary citizen through indoctrination via misinformation. Political turmoil ravages the Earth as we see protests in Israel, sanctions in Russia, and a massive upcoming election year in the United States. It is incredibly difficult to know who to believe and where to get reliable information from. I find that a great and unbiased source is the Lex Fridman Podcast.

Lex Fridman is a very popular YouTube podcast host who is credited for his research on artificial intelligence at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is clearly well-read in computer science, which makes his views on artificial intelligence more legitimate than those of some Instagram conspiracy theorists. Since his first podcast episode which aired in 2018, Fridman has hosted many important and powerful figures that range from political leaders to heavily esteemed computer science researchers. Some recent podcast episodes that come to mind are with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Mark Zuckerberg, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The episode with Netanyahu was unusually short, being just over an hour long. In this interview, Fridman asks Netanyahu many important questions regarding the democracy in Israel, the Ukraine-Russian conflict, as well as a developed conversation on corruption and hate. It was incredibly interesting to hear the words from the horse’s mouth as Netanyahu attempted to be cordial and mask his obvious political biases, considering he is one of the most powerful men on the planet. Without spoiling too much, this is most certainly an episode to listen to.

The RFK Jr. episode hosted the Democratic presidential candidate as he answered questions regarding the assassinations of JFK and RFK while also giving insight into his campaign. RFK Jr.’s opinions have him soaring through the campaign trail as he openly questions the CIA and its involvement in the aforementioned assassinations of his family members.

Mark Zuckerberg’s appearance on Fridman’s podcast was incredibly interesting as he spoke on artificial intelligence, the metaverse, and his upcoming fight with Elon Musk. It was also known that Zuckerberg has been training in the art of Jiu-Jitsu with Fridman for some time now. This was an entertaining and insightful episode in every regard.

In essence, Lex Fridman’s podcast is something that I have been listening to for many years now and one I will actively endorse to those looking for an educational podcast. Quite frankly, you never know who is going to come on the show and what fascinating elements of science or politics will be discussed. Fridman should be credited for his stout stance against misinformation, as his podcast aims to spread accurate information, bring sensitization back, and uphold positivity over hate.
