If you’re in Turlock and trying to eat out without your bank account crying for help afterwards, then this list is for you. Whether you’re a student, saving money, or just not in the mood to spend $20 on a single meal, there are many good options around town that don’t feel like a compromise on budget nor quality.

Corn’d is easily one of the most fun spots in Turlock right now. It provides the taste of trendy Korean corndog restaurants in San Francisco without the drive or hiked-up tourist prices. Their Korean corndogs start at $5.55, and they offer many options beyond the classic corndog like Hot Cheeto, Takis, or potato-encrusted dogs. They also have specialty corndogs that rotate between prices of $7.77 and $9.99, so there’s usually something new if you feel like splurging a little more. If you have a couple bucks to spare, consider adding fries or tots for $5 or a Moon drink for $3.99. The “Moonchata” was pretty amazing.

If you want a more classic option, Main Street Footers in Downtown Turlock is always a solid choice. They offer a 15% student discount, which is pretty generous. You can get a loaded baked potato with 2 toppings for $6.99, or go for nachos, hotdogs, sandwiches, or one of their salads. It’s simple and always hits the spot.

For something a little lighter, The Hummus Republic has a 10% student discount and a stuffed pita for $11.95. It’s one of those meals that actually keeps you full and won’t make you feel bloated after. They also have bowls and wraps that are just barely under $15 as well. It’s also located right across the street from the CSU Stanislaus campus, which is a plus.

Another easy option that’s also across the street from campus is Turlock Pizza Factory, which gives 10% off for students. Their mini 8-inch personal pizzas start at $9.49, which is perfect to satisfy a pizza craving when you want an entire pie to yourself.

If sandwiches are more your thing, Deli Delicious has mini sandwiches available ranging from $7.95 to $9.25. It’s quick, reliable, and refreshing. It also helps that they also offer a 10% student discount when you purchase a combo meal.

For a lighter meal or quick bite, Fuji Sushi offers temaki cucumber hand rolls for $7.75. It’s a great option for when you’re craving something yummy and refreshing.

Similarly, Teriyaki #1 Express has soups, bowls, and sides all under $10. Their meal prices begin at $10+ depending on what you are getting from their menu.

For something different, Punjab Express is a delicious option for Indian food. Their curries are $12.99, but they also have cheaper eats like $2.99 2-piece samosas and wraps under $8. Plus, they have both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, which I think is pretty awesome.

If snacks are more your vibe, Daraman Noodles is the place you need to check out. Plus, it’s within walking distance from campus. All of their appetizers like gyoza, spam musubi, and fries are under $10, so you can mix and match depending on what you feel like trying that day.

Honestly, I think that chain spots are still worth mentioning when the deals are this appetizing. Red Robin has Yum Deals starting at $9.99 with a burger, fries, and a drink. And did I mention that the fries and drinks are bottomless? Chili’s offers their 3 for Me starting at $10.99, which comes with a soup or salad and a drink. Denny’s has a value menu that you won’t want to miss, especially for those late night study sessions. Lastly, both Wendy’s and McDonald’s are still offering their $6 meal deals.

Also, don’t forget about the taco trucks around town. Many of them have tacos for under $4. One honorable mention is Mario’s Authentic Tacos; their delicious tortillas taste handmade.

This list could go on and on if I tried everything around town. Turlock is full of affordable eats– you just have to know where to look. This is a good starting point, and hopefully it helps you try something new. If you are a Stan State student, it helps to take a look at the school website for student discounted places if you want to expand beyond this list. Take care and keep your wallets and bellies full!
