What We're Watching: Loki

Michael Waldron’s star-studded Loki is currently making waves in the entertainment industry, with season two of the show finally being released. Having been first released in June of 2021, Loki received praise for its ingenuity in superhero thrillers and for being a canonical follow-up to the end of Avengers: Endgame. The show’s first season featured six episodes released one week after the other. With a writer’s strike rightfully taking full effect for the last two years, it took a while before a second season of the show could come to fruition. However, at long last, season two has graced our screens.

A cast featuring talented actors like Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, and Tara Strong is enough to capture most people’s attention. Hiddleston is a respected English actor who has starred in multiple projects from Marvel Studios. Some notable projects of his are the Thor and Avengers series. Owen Wilson is an American actor new to the Marvel cinematic universe. His first appearance in the franchise was in Season 1 of Loki, where he played the character of Mobius. He revived this role for Season 2 and has been doing a terrific job. Last but certainly not least, the widely talented Tara Strong returns with her portrayal of Miss Minutes. Strong is one of the greatest voice actors of our generation, having voiced dozens of cartoon characters like Timmy Turner, Ben 10, and Raven.

Fans of the Avengers series rejoiced when the idea of a television show featuring Loki was announced. This was primarily due to the ambiguity regarding what happened to Loki after he stole the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame. This was somewhat of a plot hole in the film, considering it was regarded as being overlooked by the Avengers. Regardless, Season 1 does a stout job of trying to clear the air without causing mass confusion. Without giving away any spoilers for the show’s first season, a lot of time travel and hypotheticals are put in place. If you are into the concept of time travel and science fiction as a whole, then this is surely the show for you.

The first episode of the second season was released on October 5, 2023. It follows the same precedent as the first season regarding a new episode being released each week for an anticipated six weeks. As of this very moment, only two episodes have been released. Fans of the series hope that Disney+ continues to revive the show for multiple seasons. However, having a budget of 141 million dollars is enough to alarm many television and streaming executives. Luckily, Loki is wildly popular and has received thousands of positive reviews. I urge everyone to enjoy viewing the god of mischief engage in more mischievous activities throughout the second season of Loki!
